1: Before You Start

Apart from helping people to find you, our extensive research has shown us that there are 5 key things people want to know about your organisation, community group, project, community building, event or resource, etc:

1:  Who you help

2:  How you help

3:  The difference that you make

4:  The Help you need

5:  How to contact You

When you come to Part 2 of ‘Adding Your Profile’ we encourage you to ‘Tell Your Story’, to share ‘Your Why’

It’s about helping the people who visit your profile to feel welcome, give them hope and let them know more about what you do. Whether it is helping them during a crisis, giving them an opportunity to volunteer, or just helping them, through you, to find ways to connect with others in their community. Each is valuable and important and helps to provide better quality of life and improve community connection.

There is so much more to your profile than just words – it is the power of what you share and how your words will leave people feeling – they may need your help – or want to help you.

2: Setting Up Your Profile is as Easy as 1-2-3 + 4 & 5

Go toaDoddle.org

Please Note: If you have been invited to add your profile to a ‘Partner Map’ you may have been given a dedicated link to use to access the ‘Add to Map’ form.

1  Click on ‘Add To Map

2  Select ‘Create your profile now’ – This will open a simple online form

3  If you would like to see more about the benefits of adding a profile to the map, click on the option below – ‘Benefits of adding your profile’

3: Your Project Type

1  Click here to select the type of project you are – Charity, CIC, Community Group, etc

(Please do let us know via feedback if you think that we could add other options)

1.1 When you click on the small down arrow to the right of the ‘Please Select’ box, a new dropdown list of options will appear

1.2 If you have selected: Charity, NFP, CIC or CIO a new box will appear for you to add your Charity or Company Number

4: The Basics

1 Name of project

2  Mission – based on user feedback our recommendation is that this is simple and action orientated, so starting with something like:

“Supporting you…”
“Creating safer communities by…”
“Helping anyone facing…”

(Please note it is limited to 100 characters including spaces)

3  What Categories does your project come under?

  • Please select all that apply by clicking in the ‘box’ to the left of each option

4 If you have chosen more than one category a new box will open asking you to select your main Category

Please Note: This will become the ‘icon’ for your pin-point on the map.

Next you will be asked some questions about your organisation, group, service or event

These are some of the many ways people might find you when they search for you. You may select as many options that apply by clicking in the checkbox to the left of each option.

5 Are your services:

  • Free
  • Low Cost
  • Subsidised
  • Charged
  • Donation Appreciated

6 Thinking about the work that you do and the support that you provide or need.
If someone was looking for a *Project like yours, would they search under:

  • I Need Help (think someone in crisis)
  • We Want to Connect and Share (think project collaboration)
  • We Want to Support Locally (think local support from a business)
  • I Want to Connect With Others in My Community (think someone feeling isolated)

You may select as many options that apply by clicking in the checkbox to the left of each option.

* Project: All charities, non-profits, community projects and organisations (or similar) that provide a free/low cost service or connection for people within a community.

7  Contact Details: Here is where you can add any contact details, website or social media links or other ways people can get in touch or learn more about what you do.

If you are adding multiple options, you can move these into the order of your choosing, by holding down your primary mouse button (this is normally the left mouse button, however you may have your mouse configured for your personal needs) on the three black dots to the left, and dragging them up or down, into your preferred order.

Please Note: You need to add at least one form of contact. This could be a website, email, telephone, etc.

7.1  Click here to select the ‘type’ of contact that you are adding (see options  7.1.1  below)

7.2  Add the contact information here, eg email address or website. (If you’re adding a social media account, please add the full link).

7.3  Click here to add more contact options.

7.4  If you want to remove the contact – click here.

7.1.1  Contact Options Available:

  • Website
  • Email Address
  • Primary Telephone
  • Secondary Telephone
  • Telephone
  • Facebook – please enter full URL
  • Twitter – Please enter full URL
  • LinkedIn
  • Donation Page
  • YouTube
  • Vimeo
  • Instagram
  • Volunteer Opportunities
  • Events
  • Other

You will see from the options above that you have the ability to add links to a donation page and/or social media profiles such as Facebook and Twitter – which we recommend, if you have them.

Our research has shown that lots of people take time to get to ‘know’ your organisation before they make contact – so the easier you make it for them – the better (and it is good for your organisation).

Please note that you can come back and add more contact options later.

8 Logo – If you have a logo you can add it now, or you may add it at a later time.

  • Adding your logo now, click on the ‘Choose file’ button
  • Locate the ‘file’ on your device and add

Note: Please ensure that the file type is png or jpeg.

If you are choosing to add your logo at a later time, this can be done in the ‘Media’ section of your personal dashboard.

5: Adding Your Location

1  Add your organisations postcode, or the location of where you provide your service and click search.

  • You can zoom in on the map and by clicking and holding down the left mouse button*, you can ‘drag’ the pointer to exactly where you want your pinpoint to be.*This is normally the left mouse button, however you may have your mouse configured for your personal needs.

2  Want to Hide Your Address?

  • We understand that some organisations may not wish to share their actual location, no worries, you have the option to ‘hide’ your address from the public, meaning it just shows the area you are in.
It’s simple – click the ‘check box’ to select this option.

3  Would you like to adjust your location?

  • If you feel that your location is not exact, we recommend that once your profile is set up, come back into the location section of your dashboard, add your address, click save, and then move the pointer to your chosen location and click save again. The visible address in the bar may have changed – but the one you entered previously is what will show on your profile.

Please note this next section is not visible to everyone, only those who have been asked to add their organisation or event to a connected partner map.

4  If you have been invited to create your profile by a partner organisation, you may have a visible checkbox at this point for you to tick if you’d like to be included on their map.

6: Your Account: Setting up Your Login Details

Please note that if you already have an account and are signed in you will not see this section.

This section is not made public. Please add the name & contact details of the person responsible for the profile. It’s how we get in contact with you and how you sign-in to your account dashboard to give you full control of the content you share with the public. It is essential that we have a named contact as without it we can’t activate your profile.

1  Your First name

2  Your Last name

3  Email address – (for logging in to your account)

4  Add a password – please ensure your password is 8 characters or more

5  Sign up to our newsletter

  • You can also choose to sign up to our newsletter which will give you opportunities for us to feature your project via social media, a monthly social media calendar, updates and more. (Again, all free!) We promise that we will never share your details or send any spam.

7: Our Terms of Service

Nearly there!

1 Check & accept our ‘Terms of Service’ – these are fairly standard and are summarised here for you – However you can see the longer version by clicking the link.

Please Note: We guarantee that we do not sell or share your data, nor are there any hidden charges for having a profile. It is our aim to keep this service free for all Charities, Community Groups and Organisations.

2 Click ‘Add Your Project To The Map’

Congratulations! The First Stage of Creating Your New Profile is Complete

After you have clicked ‘Add Your Project To The Map’ you will need to Verify your email address before you can access your profile dashboard to complete ‘Part 2’ of setting up your profile.

1 Please Note: It will be 48 hours before it is ‘Live’ for the public to see, however you can start adding more to your event profile as soon as you have verified your email address.

After the 48hrs you can choose to continue to hide it until you are ready to share it.

2  We have this delay for two reasons:

  • For safety – to ensure that only genuine profiles are added to the map(s).
  • So that you have the time to complete the setup of your profile and make it look amazing and most crucially, useful to those looking to find help, give help or get connected in their community.

You will get a notification email after 48hrs to let you know that your profile is now live.
Important – if you’re not quite ready for it to be seen by the public, you’ll be able to set it to ‘hidden’ within your settings. However, do remember to unhide it when you’re ready!

3  Off to a great start! Here you can see how much of your profile is complete, once you have verified your email address, you can head to your profile dashboard to add more information about your project. You will also be able to see how ‘complete’ your profile is from within your profile dashboard.

Last Step – Verify Your Email Address & Activate Your Account

Here is an example of how the verification email should arrive in your inbox.

Please note: Emails from us should always come from [email protected], whether that’s to verify your email address, letting you know that your project is live, or any other automatic communication like notifying you that your profile is about to turn ‘Turquoise’ or ‘Blue’ on the maps based on our Traffic Light System.

The email will look similar to the image below, you can either:
1  Click on the visible link or copy the link into your browser.

or

2  Click on the button ‘Verify Email Address’

Please Note: The verification link will show the ‘https://adoddle.org….. web address (URL*) .

We give you the option so you can choose which you are most comfortable with as our research has shown that more and more people are cautious about clicking ‘Button Links’ where they are unable to see the full URL.

* URL – Uniform Resource Locator – Every webpage has its own unique URL, a bit like a house number and postcode

Congratulations!

Your account has now been verified and you will be able to head back to aDoddle.org to complete setting up your profile.

Please Note: In approximately 48hrs you will receive an email letting you know that your profile is live on the map. If you are not ready for it to be made visible to the public then you can set your profile to ‘Hidden’ in your settings.

Our Commitment to Accessibility

We are committed to making everything we do as accessible as possible, to as many people as possible. Our team always listens to feedback and if it is something that we can do, we will. Sometimes we are able to make changes immediately, at other times it may be a 'bigger' piece of Tech development, or we may need to do a piece of research first and it may take a little longer, and then there will be times when it is something that we can't do and for that we apologise.

Please Note Regarding Grammar & Accessibility:

Feedback from those with different abilities suggests that the use of punctuation can help them with reading and understanding. Therefore, our content and layout may not always be grammatically correct, we are doing this purposefully - working towards making it accessible for all.

Feedback? IF you have feedback or suggestions as to how we can improve this guid, please email hello@adoddle.org

Our team always listens and appreciates your feedback.

If you have feedback or suggestions as to how we can improve this guide, or the aDoddle Community Maps then please do get in touch. We genuinely do listen and all respectful feedback is appreciated.

We would also love to hear from you if there are things that you like or love about the maps or guides - it is wonderful for our team, who are mostly volunteers, to hear the good things as well and for them to know that their hard work is making a difference.

Thank you in advance for getting in touch.
