1: The Community Pledge - Free Membership

For a Short Time We are Offering Free Membership, 1 Year in Return for Your Honest Feedback

For those of you who know me, you will be aware that I am a giver and asking people for money, even if it is a business transaction, is not in my comfort zone! Some of you who who are taking part in this feedback request have been quite firm with me that I need to get The Community Pledge out there. The platform has been built for more than 2 years and I haven’t told anyone about it!

So this is my ‘Step 1’ asking some trusted people to test it out, with no expectation of payment, in return for some feedback.

Any feedback is welcome, you can be blunt, however please be respectful. Examples of things that would be helpful:

  • Does it make sense – do you understand it?
  • Is it clear that membership fees will be used to fund the aDoddle.org community maps?
  • Is it clear that by having your membership you are enabling all UK charities, community groups and organisation to create a free profile on aDoddle.org?
  • What do you think of our messaging? Our lay out?
  • Is the profile page for your business OK? What else would you like?
  • In the future what other benefits would you like to have from being a member?
  • Would your business be interested in sponsoring an area map?
  • What other questions should I have asked?

Please note that all content in rest of this guide is worded as though it is for a new paying member, this is deliberate so that you can also give feedback on that as well – (with a section walking you though how to get your free membership)

Thank you so much for your time – I truly appreciate it.

In Gratitude – Jaki 🙂

2: About The Community Pledge

Why The Community Pledge?

While we were doing our research for aDoddle we spoke to a host of smaller businesses who wanted to be more connected with the community that they worked in, they wanted to give back and do good. However, often they were time and team poor, meaning that they felt they were unable to fulfil their CSR – Community Social Responsibility.

When we spoke to them about creating The Community Pledge, where they could pay an annual membership fee that would go to supporting the aDoddle Community maps and then enable all charities, community groups and organisation to create their profiles for free, they said a resounding ‘Yes’.

So we developed The Community Pledge Platform. A business pays an annual membership fee based on the number of employees it has, and in return they not only get to add their business to the Community Pledge map (showing that they are supporting their community), they also know that they are supporting all charities & community organisations to create a free profile on the map, as well as supporting everyone that lives in their community to find these organisations. So whether some one is in need of help, wants to volunteer, is looking to connect with others, etc, they can find the opportunity that is right for them.

We work with partner organisations in communities. aDoddle is great at the tech, however it is the partners in the communities that know what is needed in that area, they will always be better placed than us. So we take away the stress and pressure of developing the maps and help free up their time to focus on the people and the community. When we work together like this then everyone wins.

3: Start Creating Your Business' Public Profile - Become a Force for Good

First go to The Community Pledge Website: The Community Pledge  (TheCommunityPledge.com)

This will open The Community Pledge homepage. Here you can find the option to ‘Search’ for other businesses who have already become a Force for Good. You can read our ‘About’ section to find out more information and hear our promise of reinvesting back into communities and you can find our ‘Contact’ page, where you can get in touch. (Plus, you can Login from here once you have become a Force for Good yourself).

Your founding member status will be on your business profile page and you can use it in any of your media.
No matter whether you choose to ‘donate’ £50, £100, £250, £1000 or more – Every single pound will have a direct and positive impact on making aDoddle happen for you and your community.

1  We have added some options here. Feel free to select one of these or alternatively, you can enter a custom amount in the box below.

2  This box is where you can add a custom amount for your donation. Your membership amount should be a numeric value only (e.g. enter 125 for £125.00)

Note: If you have been advised to set up a Free Profile, please add ‘1’ into this box. You will be given the option to cancel your payment in a later step and there will be no charge. We will walk you through how to do this and ensure no payment is made.

3  Here is where you can select the frequency of your donation, click on the dropdown arrow to the right of the box to select an option.

3.1  This is the dropdown menu that will appear. Please click either ‘Monthly or Annually’.

1  Please read through the information provided carefully. Check all details are accurate and that you are happy with everything about to be submitted.

2  Once you click ‘Join’, you will be redirected to PayPal, where you can make a secure payment using your payment details. This is a secure service and the payment is managed entirely through PayPal. You do not need a PayPal account to do this.

If you would like to see more information about how PayPal works, please click on the purple writing under the PayPal logo that says ‘How PayPal Works’ or click the PayPal logo itself, and you will be taken to the PayPal website where you can read more about their trusted service.

Note: If you have been advised to set up a Free Profile, please continue to click ‘Join’ and the next section in this guide will show you how to cancel the payment step, ensuring your profile on The Community Pledge remains free. We will walk you through how to do this and ensure no payment is made.

3  Once you have reviewed all information and are happy to continue, please click the ‘Join’ button

8: Payment Screen - Free Profile

You will be taken to the PayPal secure payment screen. This is where you can cancel the payment step, ensuring your profile on The Community Pledge remains free.

1  At the bottom of the screen you will see some blue text that reads: ‘Cancel and return to IF EVERYONE CARES CIC’

Click on this text and you will instantly be redirected back to The Community Pledge website.

Please note: For transparency and to avoid any confusion, If Everyone Cares CIC is our registered company name. This is the name that shows here on PayPal, as this is where the membership donation would be paid, if you were creating a paid profile. Clicking this text will simply take you back to The Community Pledge website.

See below for the next steps and the screen to which you will be redirected to.

1  This is the screen that you will be redirected back to on The Community Pledge website. Your business has now been registered, but no membership payment has been taken. Meaning that you now have a Free Profile for your business, for 1 year as a Thank you from us for your feedback about The Community Pledge and the process for signing up.

You can always update this at a later time by going to the ‘Your Account’ page from your dashboard. However for now, please see below for a walkthrough of the other options you can access from this page:

2  This will take you to your ‘Dashboard’. From here, you can add more information to your business profile, edit or update information already provided, manage your membership and access settings. Please see the Dashboard Guide below for a more detailed walkthrough.

3  You can add another business to your account by clicking here – ‘Add Business’. The process for this is easy, and follows the same steps we have just shown you in the above guide. The only thing not included is the ‘Set Up Your Account’ step, as you have already done this, and any businesses you add under this account will be managed by this account.

4  You can Login here, using the email address and password you have just set up. Or alternatively, as you have only just set up a profile, head straight to your dashboard to customise your profile further, and you will be directed to the Login screen from there too.

9: Your Dashboard Explained

Here is your Business Profile Dashboard, where you can access all options available for your Business Profile and Account.

1  This will show the Name of you Business (in purple) and the category you chose for your Business below (in grey).

The last option in the dropdown menu is Logout, where you can securely Logout of your account on your browser. See 3.1 below.

4  This ‘Edit Profile’ button is where you go to edit your profile further and increase the ‘Profile Completion’ bar. You can add more information about your business, tell us about your motivation, upload or edit your logo image, update your location and contact details, add photos of your work or relating to your work, even change the branding colours of your business profile and more. Please see the next section in this guide for a more detailed walkthrough of how to do this.

5  ‘Manage Membership’ is where you can quickly access and manage membership payments, cancel or restart and change the amount. You can also access this section by clicking ‘Edit Profile’ 4

1  The options in this menu to the left are separate tabs, and will bring up the editing options associated with each one. These options will show in the right side of the white box as you click through. We will walk you through each of these options in the next section of this guide.

2  ‘View Public Profile’ – Clicking this button will allow you to see a preview of how your public profile looks to others when viewed from the map, along with showing the pinpoint of the location you have selected. 3  Here is your ‘Profile Completion’ bar, showing how complete your profile is compared to how much more there is to customise.

4  Below your ‘Profile Completion’ bar, is a key that makes it even easier to see what sections have been completed, and which ones you are yet to complete. Any text with a strikethrough means you have already added something to this section and it is marked as complete.

You can click on the individual options to go directly to that editing page from here. See  4.1   below for the full list.

5  Use the scrollbar or arrows to the side of your webpage to scroll down and see the full list of options, as shown above.

2  Here you can edit or add your Business Name

3  This is where you can add a category for your business. Clicking in this box will bring up the same dropdown menu of options that you saw in the initial set up of your account/profile.

Select one that is relevant to your business.

4  Here is where you can add or change your Business Logo that will show on your profile. Click on the ‘Choose file’ button, locate the ‘file’ on your device and select it. Note: Please ensure that the file type is png or jpeg.

5  Use the scrollbar or arrows at the side of the webpage to scroll down for more options in the ‘About’ section.

6  Please give a brief summary of your business in this box

7  If your business has a ‘Tagline’ – you can add it here

8  This box allows you to add more detailed information about your business. You can include things like: what you do, what services you provide, any information that is unique to your business, how to find you and how to get in contact, etc. Anything you think potential customers would like to know.

9  Here you can share your ‘Why’, your motivation for supporting your community by signing up to The Community Pledge, and your business becoming a ‘Force for Good’

10  When you are happy with the details added, click ‘Save’ before moving on to the next section.

11  If you need to go back to the top of the page, you can click this arrow here (or scroll using the bar and arrows).

15: Edit Profile - Manage Membership

If you have been advised to set up a Free Profile, please feel free to skip this section of the guide.

1  In this section, you can manage your membership and payment subscriptions. (You can also visit PayPal to see your automatic payments). You can cancel your membership at any time. Please note that upon cancellation, your business will be hidden from the network and the map, you will also need to stop using any logos or references to being a Community Pledge Member.

If you want to rejoin at any time it is very easy to reinstate your membership – see 2.

2  If you wish to set up a new membership, or reinstate an existing one, just click on ‘Add Membership’ here. You will then see the ‘Set-Up’ screen, as shown below.

See below 2.1

3  You can see your existing or cancelled memberships here in this column. You will be able to see:

  • The business name the membership is under
  • The payment amount
  • The status of the membership – e.g Active, Cancelled
  • When the membership started
  • When the membership expires
  • If there are any actions needed

2.1  If you have clicked on ‘Add Membership’, this is the screen you will see. From here you can set up membership payments.

2.2  We have added some payment options here, feel free to select one of these or alternatively, you can enter a custom amount for your donation in the box provided. Your membership amount should be a numeric value only (e.g. £125.00 as 125)

2.3  Clicking in this box will open a dropdown menu with payment frequency options. You can choose from ‘Monthly’ or ‘Annually’

2.4  If you would like to see more information about how PayPal works, please click on the purple writing under the PayPal logo that says ‘How PayPal Works’ or click the PayPal logo itself, and you will be taken to the PayPal website where you can read more about their trusted service.

2.5  If you are happy with everything, select ‘Create & Pay’ and you will be redirected to PayPal, where you can make a secure payment using your payment details. This is a secure service and the payment is managed entirely through PayPal. You do not need a PayPal account to do this.

16: Edit Profile - Settings

1  The final section in your dashboard is ‘Settings’. Here you can choose whether your profile is public or hidden and you can add your business brand colours, to further customise your profile on The Community Pledge map and website.

2  There may be a reason that you may not want your business profile visible on The Community Pledge, maybe because you work from home or work in safeguarding and do not want your location on the map made public, for example. Whatever it is, we understand. Here you can choose between publicising your business or hiding it from the public. Just click in the circle of the option that best suits you, and remember to press ‘Save’ to update your choice.

3  &  4  Here is where you can customise your profile, by selecting branding colours.

3  This section shows your chosen ‘Primary Colour’ (you can update this at any time) and should match the brands main (or primary) colour. If you haven’t got a primary brand colour, choose one that works well with your logo.

4  This section shows your chosen ‘Call to Action’ colour (you can update this at any time), and becomes the colour of your pinpoint on the map.

Clicking in either of these strips of colour, will open up a colour picker menu to further personalise the colour of your choosing. See below.

After clicking in the strip of colour, this colour picker menu will appear.
3.1  By clicking and holding down the left mouse button* on the small circle in the colour gradient, you can move the picker to wherever you would like.

3.2  Click and hold your mouse on this ‘slider’ to toggle between different colours and shades.
You can always go back up to   3.1  to adjust the hue of the colour further, once you are on a colour palette you are happy with.

3.3  Clicking on the ‘dropper’ icon, will allow you to choose a colour available to you on your screen.
Tip: If you wish to take a colour from your Logo, open an image of your Logo on your computer. Minimise both The Community Pledge / browser window and the window with your Logo on, so you can see both on your screen at the same time. Then click the ‘dropper’ icon, and move your cursor with the colour picker over to your Logo and select the colour you wish to use.

3.4  There is an icon here, of two very small arrows. (Sorry, they do appear very small!) Clicking on this will change the options in the colour picker menu. Clicking it twice will bring up the option of a ‘Hex Code’. If you do have standard brand colours for your business, you may be familiar with this and might wish to simply enter the 6 digit Hex Code of the brand colour you wish to include in your profile.

*This is normally the left mouse button, however you may have your mouse configured for your personal needs.

4  Once you are done editing your Settings, please remember to click ‘Save’
